山民斗大神。很早以前，天上住着神，地上住着人。天很高，地很厚，离得很远。好在，天和地中间有一根铜柱连接着，神可以从铜柱下到地上，人可以从铜柱爬到天上。那时候，天上有位大神，他权势很大，天上的事他管，地上的事他也管。地上的人日子过得很苦，大神却还要他们上贡粮钱，供自家人吃喝玩乐。这一年，大神又下到了人间收贡。他的派头很大，下坐要金凳，喝水要金碗，吃饭要金勺，穷苦人家哪里能招待得起他呀！听说收贡的大神来了，人们都拖儿携女躲到深山里去了。他走一家，没人；再走一家，还没人，禁不住一肚子火气。他怒气冲冲爬上山头，高声喊叫：山林里的人都听着，赶快回家上贡，不然，我就放洪水淹死你们！躲在树林里的父老乡亲吓得大气不敢出一口，哪里敢出来呢！可是，不出去也不行呀，天神降下灾祸那不全完了嘛！正在左右为难，山林中走出了一个年轻小伙，他叫伍午。伍午走到大神前，先施一礼，恭敬地说：神爷，人们都去准备上贡的钱粮了，请您老人家宽限些日子。伍午再三恳求，大神才说：要宽限也行，你得给我养好这头黑牛。公牛通体黑得像墨，惟有两只眼睛闪闪发亮，又亮得让人害怕。这黑牛冲着伍午一仰头，张开血盆般的大口就向伍午要草吃，还要吃刚割下来的嫩草。伍午割多少，黑牛吃多少，那个口大得像是一个填不满的无底洞。伍午不敢停歇地干着，割下的草还是赶不上它吃。一天下来，伍午腿酸背疼，太阳落山，倒地就睡着了。看看忙碌不过，第二天，伍午的大哥,二哥也来帮手。三个人忙得不敢直腰，还是填不满这个无底洞。自从黑牛来了，寨子里晚上经常出怪事。不是这家的鸡舍好端端塌了，就是那家羊栏突然间破了，还有的田里青嫩的庄稼苗被踩得一团稀烂乡亲们奇怪，伍午也奇怪，他决心弄个明白。这天夜里，伍午悄悄蹲在寨口的大树下，一动也不动地瞅着。一更过去了，平平静静；二更过去了，平平静静；三更过去了，平平静静。他有些累了，几乎要睡着了，又强睁开眼瞅了一下。就在这时，他看见那头黑牛大摇大摆朝寨子里走来，原来是它作怪。伍午轻手轻脚跟在黑牛后面。黑牛进了村，便钻进了一家猪圈，头一拱，两只利角顶塌了猪栏。圈里的猪受了惊吓，踢踢踏踏地跑了。伍午早有准备，提前放出了自家的黄牛。这时，黄牛冲上去对准黑牛猛地一顶，黑牛没有防备被顶破了肚子，疼得大叫一声就往山上逃跑！黄牛紧追黑牛，吓得黑牛跑得更快了。天黑路险，黑牛跑得风快，来不及转弯，蹿下悬崖，跌死了。伍午看得清清楚楚，黑牛从悬崖上摔了下去。可是，第二天清晨，他和乡亲们下到沟底，没看到黑牛，却看见那个来催贡的大神跌死在了石头上。
