檀君王俭的传说。在很古很古的时候，天帝治理着天国。那位天帝叫桓因。他有一个妃子生下来的儿子，叫桓雄。桓雄梦寐以求的一件事，就是下到人间，建设一个新的国家。父亲猜到了他儿子的心思。有一天，他把桓雄叫到自己的面前，问道：你好像有什么心事，是不是想到凡间，建设一个新的国家？你既然那样恳切，那你就去吧！到凡间去建设一个新的国家，治理人间，从善积德吧！天帝打开天窗，往下一瞅，就看见三危太白一带，天帝认为此地山清水秀，土地肥沃，是个天造地设的造福于人间的好地方，就让他携带三个天符印，率领三千个天兵天将，下到了长白山顶的神坛树下。后来人们称桓雄为天王，天王第一个来到人间的地方，叫神市。桓雄天王带领风神,雨神和云神，来主管人间的农事，人的生命，统管人类北稷的三百六十多项事情，彰善瘅恶，教育感化着人们。当时，同住在一个洞子里的一对老虎和黑熊，经常向桓雄天王祈求准许它俩化为人类。桓雄天王也同情它们，将一绞灵艾和二十瓣蒜赐给它俩，说：你们把这些吃完，呆在洞里一百天，不要出来见日光，那就会变化为人类。老虎和黑熊感激涕零。它俩吃完了艾蒿和蒜，老老实实地呆在洞里，祈祷苍天恩赐，使它们尽早化为人类。但是老虎性情暴躁，洞里没有阳光，又阴又潮，忍饥挨饿，呆不下去了，过不几天便跑出洞去再不回来了。那黑熊呢，是个慢性子，能忍，能挺，饿了，用舌头舔自己的脚掌来充饥，到底儿给坚持住了。桓雄天王看到老虎脾气暴烈，还不肯改悔，就没准许它化为人类；感到黑熊听话，可爱，到了第二十一天，就让它提前化为人类，变成了一位漂亮的姑娘。因为她是由熊变成的，所以取名为熊女。熊女看到自己映在水里的影儿，很漂亮，心里很高兴。可是总在深山老林里，孤单单一个人，连个伴儿也没有，怪闷得慌的。于是到神檀树前向桓雄天王合十祈祷，深望使她身怀有孕。恒雄天王使了个法，一会儿工夫就化为小伙子，同熊女成了亲，熊女生下了一个男孩儿，取名为檀君王俭。与天帝同一个血统的檀君王俭，从小聪明过人。当中国的上古帝王尧王即位的第五十年，王俭定都平壤，建立了国家，起国号叫朝鲜，做起了古朝鲜的第一代国王。王俭治理了朝鲜国整整一千五百年。后来隐退到叫阿斯达的地方，做了山神。听说，那时候，檀君的岁数，已经是一千九百零八岁了。
