细节人生。平和帆在大学里是一对睡在上下铺的兄弟，大学毕业又去了同一城市的同一家报社，成为一对同事加好友，尽管他们的性格十分不同。平性格文静,拘谨小心，做事井然有序，细致周到。从小到大，一直是家里的好孩子,学校的好学生，单位的好员工。他走到哪，哪里就干净整齐，一尘不染。被子叠的像豆腐块，每天换衣换袜子，出门之前三检查──钥匙,钱包和办公月票，买东西不厌其烦先问三家，每下上,下班永远踩着不变的时间和步伐。写起文章来更是精耕细作，字字推敲，无一错字，挑不出一点毛病。但是通篇平淡无奇，读来全然无味，毫无印象。帆正相反，性格豪爽,自由散漫，做事不拘小节，粗枝大叶。从小到大，总是让家长,老师和单位领导操心，他走到哪，哪里就会变的凌乱不堪，尘埃落地。早晨起来总是不叠被子，两只脚常常穿不同色的袜子，出门经常忘带钥匙，买东西经常忘找零钱，坐车有时候坐过好几站。写起文章来却是大笔一挥，文如泉涌，一泻千里，虽然有时错字连篇，却挡不住的文才和神韵，特别是结尾处，总是神来一笔，出奇制胜，读后令人回味无穷，久久难以释怀。参加工作后不久，有一天，平和帆晚上下班，去附近一家小饭店吃饭。服务员过来让座，倒茶，递上菜牌。平接过来，看了一会儿，说：谁是老板？叫你们家老板来！然后把菜牌递给帆，帆看了一眼，也说：对，找你们家老板来。服务员不知何事，赶紧把饭店老板找来，老板年纪不大，也是外地人。他不知眼前两位来者何事，有点担心害怕。平看看他，说：你们家的菜牌上有5个错别字，请你改过来。老板一听，笑了，连声说：谢谢，我这就改。说完转身就要走。帆叫住了他，顺手拉过旁边一把椅子，说：来，坐下，我是报社记者，我发现你们家的菜比别人家平均便宜三分之一，这样还赚钱吗？老板一看是记者想采访，就放心了，一一道来。他越谈越投入，把自己这几年经营过程中的甜酸苦辣一古脑倒给帆听。帆回去后，连夜写出一篇深刻且生动的小老板的故事，文章刊出后，反响很好，帆又连续采写了十位小老板创业的故事，引起很大反响。现在，几年过去了，帆已是南方某大报总编，并出版了好几本专著。平仍然留在原来的城市，原来的报社。前不久，由于报社改制，他没有被原部门应聘，调到检查科作校对了。他曾经想给帆写封信，想调到他所任职的报社工作，但是最终没有下笔。大道理：大智的人可以在细节上错得颇多，但其整体却是对的。小智者却相反：细节都对，但加起来却是错了。
